Credit Card Debt Elimination

If you are like most Americans, you probably have several credit cards in your wallet right now and you probably owe a significant amount of money on them. Unfortunately however, if you're like too many Americans today, you are also drowning in that debt and seemingly unable to make it out. With unemployment near 10% and 6 people chasing every job out there, it's a really scary time to be in debt. There are those who are even considering bankruptcy, however we urge you not to go that route. Bankruptcy is a desperate measure for a solvable problem. Instead, consider debt settlement. It really does work.

So what does a settlement company do for you? Several things actually.

A quality debt settlement company will:

Give you credit counseling to help you get out of debt.
Arrange to have all your credit card bills lumped into a single monthly payment you can afford.
Negotiate a deal with your creditors to get you a lower interest rate on your debt.
Possibly arrange for you to settle your debt for less than what you currently owe.

So how do they perform such magical feats? It's really quite simple. debt settlement consultants have been around for years and have produced wonderful results for people. They understand the credit laws and they know the credit card issuers.

One of the best things that a debt settlement consultant can do for you is to arrange for you to pay less than the full amount you owe. Unlike bankruptcy, your accounts will all list as “closed and settled.” They may state “settled for less than the full amount owed,” however, that is still better than bankruptcy because it shows you made an effort to pay your debts. The debt settlement consultants you work with can make an offer that will be accepted because they know exactly how much each issuer is likely to agree to accept (some will be more amenable than others to making a deal and this is something your debt settlement consultant should know about).

In addition to all that, the reason that debt settlement works so well is that your debt settlement consultant can get you on the right track with a sustainable budget that you can actually live on. He or she will help you plan an effective budget, taking into account the amount that you've agreed to pay back each month toward your debts so that you will not end up in this terrible mess again.

Of course, not all debt settlement services are built the same. To find a debt settlement service that works, you should follow some simple guidelines:

Ask questions. Your debt manager should be happy to answer any questions you have about the process. They will help you to fully understand what it is you are getting yourself into and what the consequences will be, both of using their services and of going without.
Ask for references. Don't just take their word for it. Look them up and find out what people had to say about them. You can also use Google to search for the company's name in order to make sure that they are legitimate.
Check the Better Business Bureau. This is a very simple and effective way to ensure that the company you are working with is reliable. Think of it as a kind of credit report on the company. In short, debt settlement works. If you find the right company and you are willing to listen to what your debt settlement consultant tells you, you can become debt free and live the life you've always dreamed of.
